Mahindra Scorpio Order Backlog at 1.19 Lakh; Waiting Period

In a regulatory filing, Mahindra & Mahindra has said that it has over 2.66 lakh open bookings as of January 2023. The popular Mahindra XUV700 accounts for 77,000 of total bookings, while the Thar lifestyle SUV still has over 37,000 pending orders. The Bolero & XUV300 account for 9,000 and 23,000 of total bookings respectively. The new-gen Mahindra Scorpio twins (Scorpio N and Scorpio Classic) have the highest backlog with 1.19 lakh pending orders.
Mahindra is receiving close to 16,500 orders per month for the new Scorpio N and the Scorpio Classic. The waiting period for the new Mahindra Scorpio-N and the Scorpio Classic currently stands over 1 year & 6 months respectively. Not just Scorpio N, the XUV700 also has a waiting period of around 10-12 months. The order backlog could further increase, as the recently launched Mahindra XUV400 electric has received over 15000 bookings and deliveries are yet to start.
The Mahindra Scorpio-N is offered with two engine options – a 2.0L turbo petrol and a 2.2L turbo-diesel. The diesel engine offers two states of tunes – 132bhp/300Nm and 175bhp & 370Nm (MT)/400Nm (AT). The petrol engine produces 203bhp and 370Nm (MT)/380Nm (AT) of torque. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission. The higher diesel variants are exclusively available with 4WD drivetrain system.
The Scorpio Classic gets a 2.2L Gen 2 mHawk turbo diesel engine that makes a top power of 132bhp and 300Nm of torque. Power is delivered to rear wheels through a 6-speed manual gearbox. This engine is claimed to be 55kgs lighter than the previous unit, which makes it 14 percent more fuel efficient.
Its seems that Bajaj Auto is planning to launch the updated Chetak electric scooter the country. Recently, the company homologated its updated Premium variant that’s mentioned as base model. As per the type-approval document, the 2023 Bajaj Chetak will come with the same 3.8kW/4.1kW electric motor delivering power to the rear wheel via an automated transmission. The motor will source its power from a lithium-ion battery pack that weighs 24.5kg. The gross vehicle weight will stand at 283kg, which is similar to the current model.
The document also revealed that the new Chetak will promise a range of 108km on a single charge. Just so you know, the existing model offers a range of 90km and 80km in Eco and Sports modes respectively. No changes will be made to its dimensions. The new 2023 Bajaj Chetak will continue to measure 1894mm in length, 725mm in width and 1132mm in height with a wheelbase of 1330mm.
Minimal changes are expected to made to its design. The new Chetek will come with the same full LED lighting, digital console, ‘feature-touch’ switchgear, 12-inch alloy wheels with tubeless tyres, 4L glove box, keyless functionality and 18-litre boot space. The electric scooter will be offered in the existing colour options, namely, Velluto Rosso, Brooklyn Black, Indigo Metallic and Hazel Nut.
Prices of the new 2023 Bajaj Chetak are expected to be more or less similar to the current model. The latter is available in Premium varaint that costs Rs 1.46 lakh (all, ex-showroom).
